Worker's Compensation Insurance

Workers’ compensation is a form of insurance that provides periodic payments in lieu of wages and medical care for employees who are injured in the course of employment, in exchange for mandatory relinquishment of the employee’s right to sue his or her employer for the tort of negligence.

The state of Wisconsin has a 9 point system which must be adhered to for definition of a subcontractor. If someone does not meet all 9 of these requirements the state of Wisconsin then considers them to be employees. A company who does not provide workers’ compensation for employees may be fined by the state.

Wisconsin is a noncompetitive state. The rates must be the same for each classification. However, with good loss experience, it is possible to realize a savings in premium.
